Step into the world of Fifth of Nisan, where music becomes a journey through time and culture. Forging their own style, the 7-piece ensemble draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of Eastern European shtetl life as well as jazz, classical, pop, and world music, creating a kaleidoscopic synthesisis.
The seed was planted by Rachel Moshel, the founder and trumpet player of Fifth of Nisan. Bringing together the best instrumentalists Melbourne has to offer, the band showcases an energetic and passionate conversation on stage.
Within just a year of inception, they’ve graced stages for crowds of up to 700 and wowed audiences, earning rave reviews for their captivating performances. In 2025, Fifth of Nisan has continued to build momentum, performing at the National Folk Festival, Federation Square, Kew Courthouse, numerous community events, and a wide range of Jewish festivals and gatherings. Right now, they are preparing for another month-long residency at Classic Southside, which follows after their last sold-out residency run. This collection of shows is in collaboration with JIFF, the Jewish International Film Festival.
Alongside that, the band is deep into pre-production for their debut studio album, which will be recorded later this year and marks an exciting new chapter of original Australian compositions written collaboratively by the band.
